Many famous content marketers often prefer email marketing as their main strategy for spreading a word about their content or product. It is because emails still have a strong CTR and is a direct way of communication. When people subscribe to your newsletter, you know that they want to see your content or they are willing to get your product news and updates directly in their inbox. And that is a plus point in email marketing.

Any type of marketing strategy is created to hold the attention of its viewers for a longer time span. But you can’t make a person read your content or information again and again everyday. You want him to remember your content which results in a Word-of-Mouth marketing. Humans only remember those things with which they attach emotionally. So to hit a longer attention span of the viewers, you need to make a strategy so powerful that it creates an impact on the human brain.

Gut Reaction:

A human brain has only 3 seconds of Gut Reaction time. And Gut reactions can arouse emotions 5 times faster than the normal conscious brain. If their gut reaction triggers the emotions of  shock, surprise, happiness, excitement and other such emotions, then it is more than enough to attract more eyeballs towards our content. Therefore, you have to aim at the gut reaction of a human being to get the most out of your strategy.

And to do that, make your subject line and pre-header text work together to let the people open your email. These lines should be so strong that they spark curiosity at the receiver’s end. Also choose your words wisely and do not use words like FREE, $$$, ACT NOW, these words may end your email into their spam folder or they will just ignore it. The subject line of your email should hit the emotions and create excitement, urgency or a low-grade anxiety.

Visual Reaction:

A human brain processes visual data 60,000 times faster than the textual data and 90% of the data we remember in a day is either text+visuals or just visuals. We tend to forget textual data more easily than the same textual data written by an image beside it. Once you have triggered the gut and made your receiver to open the email, the next step is to hold it and make him read your content with the same interest with which he opened your email.

Try to improve your email’s visual power by including some cool images and videos so that they emotionally attach to your email’s content. But do not overdo it as it will destroy the sole purpose of the email marketing, that is to convey information.

You may be wondering how are viewers emotions connected with images in our emails. Actually, emotions and images/videos are processed by human brain simultaneously. That is why seeing a cute puppy or a cat gives us happiness while seeing a war image fills us with sorrow or anger.

If you send your emails in HTML format, then try to introduce more colors with your texts in the background and other places. Colors also play a great role in email engagement. Half of the feelings about your product or content in the email will be determined by the color alone. Like yellow raises anxiety or blue raises the feeling of trust. Now you know the reason why every social website gives verified badges in blue color. (Liiiight Bulb!!!)
